This privacy policy describes how the Chrome extension “Accessible Earth” (“the Extension”) handles information. Please add or update your company name and contact details as needed before publication.

1. Information We Collect and Use

The Extension handles the following information on the user’s device and may transmit it to external services only to the extent required to provide its features.

  • Audio data (microphone input)

Purpose: speech-to-text transcription and generation of AI responses

Destination: OpenAI, Inc. (Whisper / Chat / TTS APIs)

  • Text (user input and portions of the conversation history)

Purpose: generating AI responses and maintaining context

Destination: OpenAI, Inc.

  • Images (screen captures of areas selected by the user)

Purpose: image understanding and summarisation

Destination: OpenAI, Inc.

  • Location data (latitude/longitude and place names extracted from Google Earth URLs)

Purpose: geocoding (address-to-coordinate conversion), retrieving place names, and moving the map

Destination: Google (Maps Geocoding / Maps JavaScript APIs)

The Extension does not transmit or store user data on servers operated by the developer. All communications occur directly between the Extension and the external providers (OpenAI / Google Maps).

2. On-Device Storage

  • Settings (API key, character name/persona, custom icon): stored in Chrome’s local storage.
  • Conversation history: up to 50 entries stored in Chrome’s local storage.
  • Screen captures: saved locally (Downloads folder) at the user’s request.

3. Legal Basis and Purpose of Use

  • To provide the service and execute core features.
  • To improve convenience (history retention, TTS playback, automated map movement).

4. Sharing

Except for the third-party API providers listed above, the developer does not sell or share user data with any other third parties. Each provider’s data handling is governed by its own policies.

5. User Choices and Control

  • You can edit or delete settings (API key, persona, etc.) from the Extension’s options page.
  • Conversation history resides only in local storage and can be deleted by clearing the extension’s storage via Chrome’s extension management page or by reloading the extension (maximum of 50 entries).
  • Audio recordings and screen captures are triggered solely by the user’s explicit actions.
  • You can configure rate limits in the OpenAI dashboard to prevent unexpected charges or misuse of your API key.

6. Security

  • Communications with external services take place over HTTPS.
  • Because data is transmitted over the internet, complete security cannot be guaranteed. Please manage your API key appropriately.

7. Children

The Extension is not primarily intended for children under the age of 13.

8. Changes

This policy may be updated to reflect feature changes or legal requirements. Please review the latest version when important updates occur.
